The sun sets on another year...

Last night Chris and I headed out to the beach, coffees and cake pops in tow, to watch the last sunset of his 20's.
I don't know if it's the smell of the salty air that I love so much, or the fact that everyone looks so damn good in the glowing sunlight, but I think I fell for him a little more.
The weather was perfect. Balmy, but not enough to remember that it was August in Florida. It was breezy, but not enough that my long, red hair was blown around into what could have been a seagull's nest.
I suppose if I were turning 30, last night would have been a pretty good last hurrah. Well, maybe if there had been champagne.... but I'm not turning 30 and he's not crazy about champagne.

Tonight I'm taking him out to dinner and I'm going to do my best to be, well... I don't know. I guess, sensitive? My 30th will also be my golden birthday, therefore, I'm sure I will be in the mood to party for a week. How am I going to be sensitive? Well, for starters I'm going to wear heels and I'm not going to wear lipstick...
Happy Birthday, Darling.

Lazy Hump Day

Here I am, a day off work and no motivation to get anything done. I have laundry to put away and groceries to buy. Instead, I'm watching Buffy.

I did get something done today. I wasted 6 cups of flour.

I thought: hey, I'll bake bread! Ya know, try out the dough hook on the stand mixer. I mixed the dough, put it in a bowl, and let it take a break in a nice warm spot. One hour later? The bread dough did not rise!!! My yeast had expired. So, my question is, should I buy another jar of yeast of just buy the packets? I can see myself baking bread more often, now that the stand mixer is around to knead the dough for me. On the other hand, I know that I say I'll starting "_______ing" more now that I have an awesome "______" and then I never do.
I still put that wimpy bread dough in the oven. It came out dense and chewy. It's still kinda tasty and it made the house smell nice.

Sadie, Married Lady

Whelp, I am alive and well. Married, but alive! Ha! But really, 4 really amazing events have happened in the last 6 months and I think it's time for a recap.

February----> I asked a man to marry me and he said yes!

May---------> I graduated college! My Bachelor's in English, cum laude! I received my diploma about a month ago. Chris and I had a whiskey toast by the mailbox. Finishing college was definitely a shining moment in my life.

July--------> The very last day in July I was finally given the promotion at work that I have been working my ass off for. A nice little raise and benefits? I'll take it, but don't think for a minute I haven't learned a thing from Rebecca Sharp (Vanity Fair). I'm just going to keep on smiling, charming, and working my way to the top!

August------> I swapped rings with Chris! I'd like to post a little more on the wedding later and a few photos, but I'm still learning to manage my time. I'm still getting used to being out of the house 40 hours a week.

I have 2 days in a row off work this week, so I'm hoping to work on ways to manage my time. You know, juggling housewife-ry, work, and an internet presence. Until next time, stay classy!

Shop My Closet

Coming Soon: Shop my closet! I used the name of one of my test blogs to open a shop specifically for clothes that I don't wear anymore.....

I can now fit into clothes that I haven't worn in years, but my taste has evolved so there are some items that I'm ready to part with. I have also listed a few things that are too big for me. There are some things that will always be too little for me and I have no idea when I ever fit into them! There's nothing terribly fancy (Modcloth, Jcrew, etc) because I'm not a terribly fancy person! I have yet to take pictures of anything, but it's all listed and ready to go. I think I'm going to beg Chris to help me with photos.

Hopefully soon I'll have a few more bottoms to list, that is, when my bottom gets smaller. teehee!

So, that's that!

Oops, I did it again

Well, here I am, blogging in bed with a very swollen and bruised ankle. Trinket is at my side, slowly low crawling onto my chest as I type.... I just pushed her off because I couldn't see anymore! Onto the post...

Let's start this story at the beginning.

Monday. "There should be a holiday dedicated to all the brave people that show up to work on a Monday." @Carrie_Br4dshaw (Twitter).

I sprained my ankle Monday morning at work. I was getting a shelf down off its bracket (overhead) when I heard a face-out arm sliding on the shelf. I was wearing flip-flops so I had to do that funny dance to avoid having the face-out fall on my foot. Well, my funny dance was a little much and I lost my footing. I rolled my ankle and fell right on my ass, 4ft shelf still in hand over my head. The face-out crashed onto the floor just inches from my feet. I hollered and I immediately had to make myself laugh to keep from crying. I yelled lots of effs and ess's (the store wasn't open), which always help dull the pain.

I'm not blaming the flip-flops here. I'm irritated at the jackass who left the fixture on the shelf, out of sight. Had I known what I would be doing that morning I would've worn sneakers, but I was told I'd be changing the modelkins (not very hazardous).

I got up and walked it off a little, the swelling coming and going for the next 3 1/2 hours of my shift.

Stupid.
I sprain my ankles often, no matter what shoes I'm wearing. It's just irritating.
Friday. Oops, I did it again.

Well, not exactly. No rolling this time. I was getting a few shelves out of the fixture room to take upstairs with me and I fumbled as I was getting one down off the shelf they are stored on (shelves kept on a shelf? Just take my word for it). Two shelves came crashing down, right into my poor little abused ankle, the one I effed up on Monday. Let me just say that our shelves at work are heavy. I would say a good 10 lbs each. I feel lucky that nothing was broken!

Anyhoo, I immediately yelled some gd's (then apologized because some people take offense), but continued with the effs, ess's, and I muttered some others that would rile up a room full of women. My manager was there and asked if I wanted to file an accident report just as I began to laugh maniacally to keep from sobbing.

I seriously entertained the idea of going home at that point.

Stupid.
I said, let me see if I can walk it off. I worked another 6 hours.
Stupid.

For the rest of the day I flinched at every fixture I touched.

The funny thing about all of this? I haven't learned a damn thing.

Have a safe weekend!

Basin --A Teensy Review

Last weekend I went to Magic Kingdom with my nephew. It was his first time and he is 5. He had tons of fun and professed his love for Uncle Chris and Aunt Jenny on the car ride home with his Mommy, my sister. After the park that night I was also able to pop into Basin, a bath and body store at Downtown Disney. I'd walked past it so many times, but lately I have been in too much of a rush to get somewhere that I don't have time to stop in. You see, I don't go to Downtown Disney to mosey around like most, as a park passholder, I only go there when I need something specific. For example, I went on Saturday night because I was getting Mickey ears embroidered for my nephew. We forgot to get them at the park earlier and he really wanted them. After getting his ears, I stopped in Basin for a look around.

Basin, like Lush is one of those stores you can smell half a mile away. Basin is much bigger than any of the Lush stores I've been in though, but it carries the same sort of items. Chemical and paraben-free and no animal testing. I'm in. They had mounds of bath bombs and cakes of soap. I was attracted to the shampoo bars, the pumpkin one to be exact. Their products are competitively priced with Lush, being a little cheaper.

I picked up a few bath bombs as well. I have already used the shampoo and it is wonderful. It lathers surprisingly well for a solid shampoo. I also used one of the bath bombs yesterday after my unsurprisingly shitty day at work. It was super fizzy and fragrant. As some may know, Trinket does not let me take baths in peace. She cries and whines until I put her in the water, too. Today Trinket's fur still smells like the Vanilla Oak bomb I used (teehee).

This post is by no means, a comparison between Lush and Basin. I'm simply using Lush as an example because most people are familiar with it.

I plan on sticking my head in this shop again! Also, Happy Independence Day!
